How to Remove the Soft Top on Your Jeep Wrangler?

Removing the soft top on a Jeep Wrangler is fairly straight forward. Just get an extra set of hands and you’ll be well on your way to restoring your Jeep to its ideal configuration. Which is open-air.

Steps to Remove the Soft Top of Your Jeep Wrangler

  1. Unclip the sun visors and then move them to the side. After, lift up the header latches, which are above the windshield frame, and then release them from the loop.
  2. On the exterior of your Jeep Wrangler, unzip and remove the quarter windows and place them in a safe spot.
  3. Remove the rear window by unzipping its zipper and also store it in a safe place.
  4. Release the rear sail flaps on the rear corners of your Jeep Wrangler and fold them onto the top of the soft top.
  5. Pull the soft top back towards the front of your Jeep Wrangler. Slide the sleeves over the side bows and push them down to lock in place.
  6. Pull down the rear sail flaps and secure them to the rear window retainers.
  7. Line up the rear window with the swing gate bar brackets. Push them into place by pushing in and rotating.
  8. Zip the rear window back into place
  9. Tuck the swing gate bar retainers into the body of the Jeep Wrangler and ensure the rear window is secure.
  10. Attach the quarter windows to the Velcro and zip the windows into place. Tuck in the window body retainers starting from the back and working your way to the front.
  11. Close down the latches over the windshield frame to lock down the top. Clip the sun visors back into place.
